Howdy and welcome to the gumbush!
If you've been hankerin' for diaper simplicity and suspect that maybe
our grannies were smarter than they've been credited for, put your feet
up and sit a while.
A couple of old-fashioned ideas
that've helped inspire the gumbush mindset are:
The simplest things are often the
handiest in the long run.
You can use flats for swaddlin', blankets, tie-dolls, play cloths,
nursing covers, lap pads, burp cloths, inserts or doublers with other
cloth diapers, or as diapers in their own right.
And if you have more than one little one, they can all use the
same size. Now, ain't that convenient!
A little work now saves you from a
lot of work later. It
takes a bit of work up front to fold flats, but gettin' 'em clean and
dry with no stains and no stink is no effort at all. You don't
need to fuss with lots of fancy detergents, washin' and re-washin', or
hours dryin'. Instead of cartin' them (and detergent and quarters)
to the laundromat or carryin' a whole trip's worth of disposable diapers
into and then right back out of your campsite, you can even wash 'em by
hand and line dry.
